A lovely antique cocktail spoon, 1920s, by William Suckling Ltd. This spoon reminds us of a similar vintage spoon by Asprey & Co London. Almost identical in style. This Art Deco spoon features a twisted stem, a spoon on one end and a flat, round muddler for crushing your cocktail ingredients at the other end. The spoon bed is inset (deeper than most, see photo #6), we tried to capture this in photos. This spoon has a solid, weighted feel to it and also a magical one. The base is hallmarked When not in use, the spoon rests perfectly upright on its flat, round muddler. Truly a stunning Art Deco barware piece.
Please note: we were fortunate enough to have two of these vintage spoons in our inventory and one recently sold. This is our last one.
A little bit about this manufacturer: William Suckling Ltd. is a silversmith that was founded in Birmingham in 1895 and registered in 1922. The company's products combine classical decoration motifs with Art Deco style. Some items stamped with "S Ltd" on the base of the base and a signpost symbol for SUCKLING LTD.
Maker: William Suckling Ltd, 1920s
Hallmarks: "S. Ltd" and "E.P.N.S" (electroplated over nickel silver) and "Kingsway Plate" and "Made in England" be be found on the muddler end (see photo)
Measurements: Approx. 10 3/4" in length
Condition: Good vintage condition with signs of age. Please keep in mind, this spoon is 100 years old. Here's a full summary:
1) There's general "age" that comes purely from time
2) There's what we refer to as "surface wear" that includes micro fine scratches, etc - from past handling, how it was stored, etc.
3) The muddler end shows surface wear and general age including some tiny wear/marks through the silver-plating on the back of the spoon bed
4) The silver-plating is in good shape overall but does show mild age (and micro tiny age spots smaller than a pinhead in size) on the spoon bed that are darker - we tried to capture it in photo #9 in a lower lighting setting
5) There's mild tarnish
In short, this antique spoon is in good shape overall but does show signs of age and some very minor spots of wear to the silver-plating on the back of the spoon bed. Truly a magical muddler spoon.
