A lovely vintage silver-plated flask from the great Chicago Fair, 1930s. This lovely flask is still in the original green velvet box. The flask features a screw on/off cap (that still has its original cork inside of it) and an Art Deco style "lined" pattern. This flask is smaller in size and would have likely been ideal for a hip pocket or purse back in the 30s. This flask is well-crafted and has a magical feel to it. This flask is a true silver tone; any gold hue you see is from our camera's flash. Cheers.
History of the 1930s Chicago Fair: The 1933-1934 Century of Progress Exposition Chicago Fair was the second world’s fair hosted by Chicago. The site of the fair was Northerly Island. Despite its name, the fair was less a retelling of Chicago’s first 100 years and more a showcase for modern living, consumerism and entertainment. All of this was driven by the need to stimulate spending during the Great Depression. There were nearly two dozen corporate pavilions at the exposition pushing the latest gizmos and gadgets for home and car—a big increase from the nine corporate pavilions at Chicago’s 1893 World's Fair. The 1933-1934 World’s Fair gave people hope for the future during the Great Depression. Now, more than 80 years later, the site of the fair is a beautiful lakefront park and Art Deco is a celebrated architectural style.
Halmarks: There are no hallmarks on the flask; the velvet case has "The Fair Chicago" stamped in black cursive font on the satin portion.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. This flask appears to be NOS (new old stock) and unused. However, there's general "age" that comes purely from time or past handling (i.e. mild tarnish and tarnish spots -- we have not polished this piece). But overall, this flask is in very, very good vintage condition. The velvet box (which is hard-sided and covered in green velvet) shows age. In short, this flask is in very good vintage condition.
**Please NOTE: we typically do not test our flasks for leakage. We offer a variety of vintage flasks (both usable as well as collectible/display only). We are happy to put our flasks through a thorough leakage test (which involves filling it with liquid and rigorously shaking it) -- please message us if you'd like us to test this particular flask. Cheers!
Measurements: Approx. 4 1/4" tall x 3" wide -- again, please note: this is a smaller in size flask.
**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery. Please note: we're not making a penny on shipping. This flask is heavier in weight and we pack our pieces well to ensure safe arrival. If purchasing multiple pieces, we'll combine shipping to a single box (or as few boxes as possible) and will automatically reimburse you for all shipping overages paid.
****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage or damage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces. Our items are true vintage pieces that might have manufacturers flaws, flaws from age, or imperfections in general from being vintage. We try to explain the condition/description in an accurate and thorough manner but we ask that you please examine all photos carefully and ask all questions before purchasing an item as we are unable to accept returns due to the risk of breakage/damage. Cheers!
