1936 Burke's Complete Cocktail and Tastybite Recipe manual, first edition. Truly a cool vintage cocktail book. Written by Harman “Barney” Burke, Burke was an American barman who plied his trade in London, Paris, Berlin, and Copenhagen before returning to America after repeal and writing this book. According to Mr. Burke, cocktails should accompany appetizers and he provides a number of appetizer recipes. This book came in black as well as red and features gold font with an image of a clock and a tray with a martini glass and cocktail shaker. Truly a neat mixology book.
Condition: Good vintage condition overall but with signs of age. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage books, so here's a full summary:
1) The red hardcover is in good condition overall but does show mild signs of wear in a number of places including the corners of the book
2) The hardcover shows general "age" that comes purely from time including a subtle crease (see photo #10)
3) The interior pages are in very good condition but there's some "age" and yellowing which occurs to books over the course of decades
4)The binding is tight
5) There's one tiny "tear" in the front interior page (1/4" in size) -- see photo #2 (lower left hand side/page)
Overall, this vintage cocktail guide is in remarkable condition for it's age but does show signs of wear inline with a book that's 85 years old. Cheers!
Measurements: 6 3/4" tall by 4 1/4" wide
**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery. Please note: we ship our vintage books Media Mail, which can take longer for arrival. If you need a faster shipping option, please message us and we'll modify the shipping to Priority. Cheers.
*****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage or damage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces. Our items are true vintage pieces that might have manufacturers flaws, flaws from age, or imperfections in general from being vintage. We try to explain the condition/description in an accurate and thorough manner but we ask that you please examine all photos carefully and ask all questions before purchasing an item as we are unable to accept returns due to the risk of breakage/damage. Cheers!
