A first edition (1936) hardcover cocktail book Drinks How to Make and Serve Them by Bill Edwards. This book was later published in a softcover version. This scarce hardcover was published by David McKay Company (Philadelphia) and contains dozens of recipes including a Flapper, a Golden Bell, a Side Car, and dozens more vintage recipes. The front hardcover features a vintage coupe glass along with a vibrant red and blue and white background. Truly a magical mixology guide.
Condition: Very good condition for a book that's 90 years old. Here's a full summary:
1) The binding is tight
2) It has its original hole-punched red ribbon (this was so bartenders could hand the book for easy access)
3) The pages are clean and crisp
4) There's yellow to the interior pages that paper gets over the course of decades
5) The exterior shows age including a small stain near the lower right (near the author's name) as well as a water staining on the back hardcover (lower section)
In short, this book is in good shape for its age but does show age and wear. Truly a lovely guide. Cheers.
