A 1946 first edition Trader Vic's Book of Food & Drink, with original dust cover. Trader Vic was a leader in the early tiki drink movement, which became popular when soldiers came home from the South Pacific after WWII. Cocktails herein, many of which are rum based, are given inspired names like Devil's Leap, La Florida daiquiri, Shingle Stain, Rum Julep, Haote Pikia, and dozens more.
This book had a small 1940s "Tasty Main Dishes To Make With Velveeta" pamphlet tucked away inside of it and while this has nothing to do with vintage cocktails, we're a bit superstitious about leaving items that are found together, together. See photos #3 and #7 for reference.
Format: Hardcover with dust jacket, 272 pages.
Copyright: 1946, First Edition
Publisher: Doubleday
Author: Victor Bergeron
Condition: The book itself is in very good vintage condition; however the dust cover is in poor condition, as you can see from the photos. The hardcover's exterior is in good shape, the interior pages are crisp and clean, the binding is tight. The dust cover shows very obvious signs of wear/age (see photos #1, #2, and #3_ -- there's a good tear/missing part from the front dust cover and the edges of the dust cover show wear. The Velveeta pamphlet is is good shape as it's been tucked away inside the book for decades. In short, this book is in very good vintage condition for a 70 year old book with very mild signs of age and the dust cover is in fair/poor condition. Truly a magical guide.
Book measures a tad over 7 1/2 x 5 x 4 3/4 inches
