A gorgeous set of 8 Art Deco red Bakelite muddler stirrer spoons, in their original silk-lined box by Plummer Ltd (Fifth Ave New York), 1930s. These silver-plated spoons form stirrers with flattened tips for "muddling" and a cherry red Bakelite ball finial that screams Art Deco. The cherry Bakelite tips are a bold cherry red (it was tough to capture their true vibrancy in photos). Truly a breath-taking set.
A popular drink in the 1920s and 30s was the Old-Fashioned cocktail which consisted of whiskey, water, sugar, bitters and a slice of orange. The contents were "muddled" in a glass. The muddler was often left in the old-fashioned glass and served. So why not serve your cocktails in elegance and style with these stunning Art Deco muddler spoons?!
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The silver-plating is vibrant overall (there's very minimal tarnish the buyer can polish away, if they choose to). The Bakelite red ball tips are in excellent condition (no crazing or cracks) and are still shiny (sometimes Bakelite gets a "matte" look over the years as it ages, these finial tips are shiny and pristine). The box is in "fair" condition as the exterior shows noticeable age including wear to the interior and one of the corners. The interior shows age as well (the satin has yellowed which happens to fabric over the course of decades). In short, these vintage stirrer muddler spoons are in good vintage condition and the box is in fair condition. Truly a stunning set.
Hallmarks: "ESPN Made in England" can be found on the back of each spoon and "Plummer Ltd. Fifth Avenue New York" can be found on the interior silk lining
Measurements: These spoons measure approx. 4" in length
This set includes 8 spoons and 1 case
