A gorgeous set of 8 Art Deco red lucite muddler stirrer spoons, in their original silk-lined box. 1930s. These silver-plated spoons are stirrers with flattened tips for "muddling" (see photos #8 and #9 for reference) and a cherry red lucite ball finial that screams Art Deco. The box is extremely well-crafted and has a black textured exterior with gold trim and two brass clasps. Truly a breath-taking set.
A popular drink in the 1920s and 30s was the Old-Fashioned cocktail which consisted of whiskey, water, sugar, bitters and a slice of orange. The contents were "muddled" in a glass. The muddler was often left in the old-fashioned glass and served. The longer version of this muddler spoon were often used in tall cocktails that called for Collins style glasses.
We have other sets of these listed (both long and the shorter version), if you're looking for a particular vintage set. Please see other listings. Cheers.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The silver-plating is vibrant overall (there's very minimal tarnish the buyer can polish away, if they choose to). The lucite red ball tips are in excellent condition (no crazing or cracks). The box is also in very good shape with some very minor surface wear on the bottom of the box. The interior silk will typically yellow on a set like this, but this silk on this box is in excellent condition. The brass clasps are in great shape. Overall, this set of spoons is in excellent vintage condition and truly a stunning one.
Hallmarks: "ESPN Made in England" can be found on the back of each spoon and "Made in England" can be found on the bottom of the box in gold lettering.
Measurements: These spoons measure 8 3/4" in length
