A stunning set of 6 Mid-Century Culver "Icicles" (CUV110) rocks glasses. The pictures don't do the pattern justice....it's heavily textured and has a trio of stunning 22k gold bands along with a raised texture that mimics an "icicles" texture. Truly a lovely set.
A quick summary about this glassware maker: Culver started the application of the 22-karat gold to their glassware. Fun fact: the super-heated, roll-on process of gold remains a secret today. Culver comes in a variety of patterns including gilded mushrooms, owls, cats, wildlife, Egyptian or Asian inspired design themes, scrolling leaf patterns, holiday designs, sports motifs and many others. The Icicles pattern is one of their more rare patterns and is the essence of Hollywood Regency and vintage glam!
Maker/pattern/year: Culver Ltd, "Icicles" pattern (catalogue pattern name "CUV110), 1960s
Hallmarks: *Please note, Culver did not sign this particular pattern, so these glasses do bare the Culver signature
Measurements: 4 1/4" tall x 3 1/4" in diameter
Condition: Good vintage condition with general signs of age and some minor gold loss. The glass clarity is clear (no cloudiness). The 22k gold is vibrant, overall but there is some very mild gold loss in a few places. There are also some manufacturing occurrences (that naturally come with vintage glassware). Here's a full summary:
1) There's minor gold loss in a few places on the top and lower gold bands (see last photo as an example)
2) There's a "seam" you can see in this pattern (purely the nature of this Culver pattern and many other of their patterns due to how the pattern was applied to the glass)
3) There's one area of the "icicles" that aren't quite as tight of a weave (again, purely the nature of MCM glassware and a manufacturing occurrence) - see photo
4) There are some slightly darker spots where that gold area is slightly darker than the rest of the gold (very small areas) on some of the gold bands (see photo #4 for reference)
In short, this set is in good vintage condition but does how minor gold loss in a few places as well as some manufacturing occurrences. This set displays beautifully.
