A stunning set of 7 Georges Briard low ball (old-fashioned) glasses. These glasses are simply gorgeous with a heavily embossed gold and orange enameled Art Deco design that has the most incredible "raised" texture. The pattern features vibrant orange "rays" connected to a gold floral medallion centerpiece. The glasses are from their "Art Deco" line (which included a few other patterns) and came in this Ggold/orange combination as well as a black/Gold combination. The pictures don't do these glasses justice. Truly a breath-taking set.
A quick summary about this glassware maker: Georges Briard was the go-to for decorative housewares in the 1950s and 60s and was carried at upscale retails like Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. Briard’s success and notoriety came with the use of 22-karat gold as screened decoration for bent glassware. His design hallmarks are repetitive patterns, most often featuring geometric shapes or nature based images. Georges Briard is known for creating some of the most stunning Mid Century Modern glassware as well as Atomic and Kitsch designs in the later 1970s and is the essence of MCM glassware excellence.
Maker/Era: Georges Briard, Mid Century
Hallmarks: All glasses are signed "ART DECO by Georges Briard" (in an Deco-style font and cursive font) in 22k gold
Measurements: 3 1/2" tall x 3 1/4" in diameter
Condition: Good vintage condition with a few mild signs of age. These glasses have been in a display cabinet for years. The orange and gold is vibrant. Great glass clarity (no cloudiness). There's some very minor gold loss in a few areas on the gold trim as well as some very minor loss on a few areas of some of the cursive signatures. One glass has ever so slightly a bit more gold loss in a few areas and the orange enamel seems ever so slightly less vibrant than the other 6 glasses.
Please note: the raised flowers inside the medallion are an iridescent tone and not gold (this is not wear or gold loss, this is the intentional design/pattern).
In short, this set is in very good condition with mild age. Truly a stunning set that displays beautifully.
