A magical set of 5 Georges Briard "It's In The Cards" tumblers. These glasses are simply stunning and feature feature whimsical Kings (Aces, Spades, Clubs and Diamonds) drinking from coupe glasses along with "It's In The Cards" in gold retro lettering. This pattern came in this stark white, gold, and black as well as a Turquoise, gold, and black. Truly a magical set.
A quick summary about this glassware maker: Georges Briard was the go-to for decorative housewares in the 1950s and 60s and was carried at upscale retails like Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. Briard’s success and notoriety came with the use of 22-karat gold as screened decoration for bent glassware. His design hallmarks are repetitive patterns, most often featuring geometric shapes or nature based images. Georges Briard is known for creating some of the most stunning Mid Century Modern glassware as well as Atomic and Kitsch designs in the later 1970s and is the essence of MCM glassware excellence.
Maker: Georges Briard
Hallmarks: All glasses are signed "Georges Briard" in 22k gold
Measurements: 5 1/2" tall x 2 3/4" in diameter
Condition: Good vintage condition with a a few minor signs of age. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage glassware, so here's a full summary:
Glass #1 - Has two tiny, smooth chips right below the rim. We've examined them under a high-powered lens and don't believe it's a manufacturing flaw; the two tiny spots are completely smooth to the touch (please see photo #6, where our finger is pointing)
Glass #2 - No real wear or age; there's two micro tiny darker scuffs on a section of the white (extremely minor)
Glass #3 - The white that fills in the crown of the king isn't quite as stark white as the rest of the white
Glass #4 - No wear or age
Glass #5 - No real wear or age; there's a few micro tiny darker scuffs on a section of the white (extremely minor)
We're being a bit nit picky as we like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage sets. In short, these glasses are in good shape overall and display beautifully.
Please note: Mid Century glassware often has imperfections (i.e. tiny bubbles in the glass, or a "seam" from when the glass was being created, an extra spot of gold or enamel that made it on a clear part of the glass, etc -- purely the nature of vintage glassware).
**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery. Please note: we are not making a penny on shipping. These glasses will be double-boxed to ensure safe arrival, which means a larger, heavier box!
****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces. Our items are true vintage pieces that might have manufacturers flaws, flaws from age, or imperfections in general from being vintage. We try to explain the condition/description in an accurate and thorough manner but we ask that you please examine all photos carefully and ask all questions before purchasing an item as we are unable to accept returns due to the risk of breakage.
