A rare Mid Century vibrant gold, black, and stark white patterned ice bucket by Georges Briard. This pattern (which also came on collins and rocks glasses) is called "Mad Mottos" (from Georges Briard's "Able Label" Collection) and is filled with clever phrases that poke fun at being the wrong ones, such as "Be Neat" (that has messy paint splatter on it), "We Never Make Misteaks" (mistakes is misspelled), "Plan Ahead" (with the "h" intentionally not having enough space on the label) and a handful of other clever mottos. There are also a number of gold starbursts mixed throughout the motto labels. This pattern is extremely rare and truly a magical one.

Georges Briard was the go-to for decorative housewares in the 1950s and 60s and was carried at upscale retails like Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. Briard’s success and notoriety came with the use of 22-karat gold as screened decoration for bent glassware. His design hallmarks are repetitive patterns, most often featuring geometric shapes or nature based images. This glassware typically (but not always) bares the signature "Georges Briard" (which varies in style, depending on the year it was created). Georges Briard is known for creating some of the most stunning Mid Century Modern glassware as well as Atomic and Kitsch designs in the later 1970s and is the essence of MCM glassware excellence.

Era/pattern: 1960s, Georges Briard, Mad Mottos

Hallmarks: This ice bucket does not bare the Georges Briard signature

Measurements: 4 3/4" tall x 5 3/4" tall

Condition: Very good vintage condition. The pattern is vibrant and in great condition with extremely, extremely minimal wear. There's one small scratch near the base of the ice bucket that was impossible to capture in a photo. And please note: Mid Century glassware often has imperfections (i.e. tiny bubbles in the glass, or a tiny bit of residue where an extra bit of glue around the jewels when they were applied, the jewels are perfectly aligned, etc -- purely the nature of vintage glassware). There are a few manufacturing imperfections in this ice bucket including: a "wrinkle" in the glass (it's smooth but likely occurred while in the molding process) and the rim of the ice bucket has a small lump (it's not a chip, but likely occurred during the removal from the mold). In short, this vintage ice bucket is in very good vintage condition and truly a magical one. Cheers!
