A lovely Mid Century Georges Briard "Mix Your Poison" glass and 4 Mid Century jeweled celluloid skull swizzle sticks. This hard to come by pattern is the pinnacle of Georges Briard's "Name Your Poison" pattern and truly a magical one. This glass features a gold "Rx" on each side of the skull and cross bones graphics along with a gun, criss-crossed knives and two mortals/pestles. And the Mix Your Poison mixing glass is tapered (not straight as the Poison glasses are). The graphics colors are a stunning deep black with a vibrant gold. The swizzle sticks are just as magical and are made of a heavy celluloid material and rhinestone eyes. They are an ivory color.
A quick summary about this glassware maker: Georges Briard was the go-to for decorative housewares in the 1950s and 60s and was carried at upscale retails like Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. Briard’s success and notoriety came with the use of 22-karat gold as screened decoration for bent glassware. His design hallmarks are repetitive patterns, most often featuring geometric shapes or nature based images. Georges Briard is known for creating some of the most stunning Mid Century Modern glassware as well as Atomic and Kitsch designs in the later 1970s and is the essence of MCM glassware excellence.
Maker/era: Georges Briard, Mid Century
Hallmarks: Georges Briard can be found in gold font on the lower section of the mixing glass
Measurements: The glass measures 5 3/4" tall x 3" in diameter, the swizzle sticks measure 6 3/4" in length
This set includes: 1 "Mix Your Poison" glass and 4 skull swizzle sticks (2 clear jeweled, 1 red jeweled, 1 green jeweled)
Condition: Very good vintage condition overall with minor signs of age. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage glassware, so here's a complete summary:
1) The glass is near pristine. The "RX" on each side is in tact (rare for this glass/pattern), crisp graphics, crisp signature
2) There's an extra dot of black enamel that made it to the very bottom interior of the glass (see photo #8), not uncommon with MCM glassware
3) Two of the swizzle sticks are ever so slightly darker beige than the other two (very subtle but we like to be thorough)
4) The green jeweled swizzle stick has a minor dark scuff mark on the back of the head
In short, this vintage set is in good vintage condition with mild signs of age and a manufacturing occurrence. Cheers.
Please note on the swizzle sticks: we cannot confirm these swizzle sticks are original to the Mix Your Poison Glass. This set was purchased from a private estate but we have no way to confirm the swizzle sticks originally came with the glass. Cheers!
