A lovely Mid Century Georges Briard "Mix Your Poison" glass and 6 Mid Century celluloid skull swizzle sticks. This hard to come by pattern is the pinnacle of Georges Briard's "Name Your Poison" pattern and truly a magical one. This glass features a gold "Rx" on each side of the skull and cross bones graphics along with a gun, criss-crossed knives and two mortals/pestles. And the Mix Your Poison mixing glass is tapered (not straight as the Poison glasses are). The graphics colors are a stunning deep black with a vibrant gold. The swizzle sticks are just as magical and are made of a heavy celluloid material and rhinestone eyes. They are an ivory color.
A quick summary about this glassware maker: Georges Briard was the go-to for decorative housewares in the 1950s and 60s and was carried at upscale retails like Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. Briard’s success and notoriety came with the use of 22-karat gold as screened decoration for bent glassware. His design hallmarks are repetitive patterns, most often featuring geometric shapes or nature based images. Georges Briard is known for creating some of the most stunning Mid Century Modern glassware as well as Atomic and Kitsch designs in the later 1970s and is the essence of MCM glassware excellence.
Maker/era: Georges Briard, Mid Century
Hallmarks: None beyond the various poison hallmarks; this mixing glass does not bare the Georges Briard signature
Measurements: The glass measures 5 3/4" tall x 3" in diameter, the swizzle sticks measure 7 1/4" in length
This set includes: 1 "Mix Your Poison" glass and 6 skull swizzle sticks
***Please note: these swizzle sticks do not have rhinestone eyes, they are the plain (or non-jeweled) skull swizzle sticks. Cheers.
Condition: Very good vintage condition overall with minor signs of age. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage glassware, so here's a complete summary:
1) The swizzle sticks are in great shape
2) The glass clarity of the mixing glass is perfectly clear, no cloudiness
3) The graphics are vibrant and all gold is present
4) The "Rx" graphics on the sides of the glass are crisp
5) There's one tiny (and we mean tiny) scuff mark on the black graphic/line on that goes around the bottom of the glass (it's so insignificant you won't notice it but we like to be thorough).
In short, this vintage set is in very, very good vintage condition and displays beautifully. Cheers.
