A rare set of eight (8) Trader Vic "Big Shot" glasses by Imperial Glass Co. No words can express how magical this set is. These Mid Century glasses were by Imperial Glass Company for Trader Vic's. Morgantown Glass Company was occasionally contracted by Imperial Glass to produce these if their production line was at capacity. Each glass/tumbler has "BIG SHOT" embossed on the bottom and looks like a bullet casing. These tumblers were used in Trader Vic for serving a cocktail called Gun Club Punch. The green colored glass was meant to match Winchester ammunition and it was also available in red glass to match Remington shells. Truly a stunning and rare set.
The Imperial Glass Company was founded in 1901 by Edward Muhleman, with production beginning in 1904. Their handmade glasswares were sold worldwide and were typically made of pressed glass patterns. Their "Shoji" line, which was manufactured from 1965 to 1974, gilded with real 22k gold and is the quintessential style of the Hollywood Regency Era.
Maker/year: Imperial Glass Company, Production Date: 1950 - 1970
Hallmarks: Each is marked on the bottom with "Big Shot Super XXX"
Measurements: Just shy of 5 3/4" tall x 2 3/4" in diameter
Condition: Very good vintage condition. No chips or nicks of any kind. There's minor age/wear to some of the gold. We like to be thorough, so here's a glass by glass summary:
Glass 1: Very minor gold loss, mostly on the bottom/base. Glass 2: Very minor gold loss, mostly on the bottom/base. Glass 3: Very minor gold loss, mostly on the bottom/base. Glass 4: Very minor gold loss, mostly on the bottom/base and a few very small areas on the upper gold section. Glass 5: Very minor gold loss, mostly on the bottom/base and a few very small areas on the upper gold section. Glass 6: Mild but slightly more gold loss than the other glasses, mostly on the bottom/base and a few very small areas on the upper gold section. Glass 7: Very minor gold loss, mostly on the bottom/base and a few very small areas on the upper gold section. Glass 8: Mild but slightly more gold loss than the other glasses, mostly on the bottom/base and a few very small areas on the upper gold section.
In short, these glasses are in good vintage condition overall but each glass's gold section has mild or minor gold loss. Truly a stunning set that displays beautifully. We can send additional photos upon request.
Again, please note: Mid Century glassware often has imperfections (i.e. tiny bubbles in the glass, or a "seam" from when the glass was being created, an extra spot of gold or enamel that made it on a clear part of the glass, etc -- purely the nature of vintage glassware). These glasses are no exception. Cheers!
**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery. Please note: we are not making a penny. We pack our glassware wear to ensure safe arrival and these glasses will be double-boxed, which means a larger, heavier box!
****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage or damage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces. Our items are true vintage pieces that might have manufacturers flaws, flaws from age, or imperfections in general from being vintage. We try to explain the condition/description in an accurate and thorough manner but we ask that you please examine all photos carefully and ask all questions before purchasing an item as we are unable to accept returns due to the risk of breakage/damage.
