A lovely Napier silver-plated Art Deco style jigger. This double jigger features Art Deco "spokes" between the jigger ends. One end holds 1 ounce (and has the number "1" etched on it (in a lovely block style font) and the other end holds 4 ounces and has a "4" etched on it. We took photos in two different lighting settings to capture the true essence of this vintage piece. Truly a lovely bar measure.
We also have this vintage jigger in a gold-plating. Please see other listings.
A quick bit of history on Napier: The Napier Company was named after its president, James H. Napier, who led the company from 1920 to 1960. But the company's history can be tracked back to 1875 when it was founded as Whitney and Rice in Attleboro, Mass., manufacturing silver products. The firm changed hands and name in 1882 and became Carpenter and Bliss and shortly thereafter, E.A. Bliss and Co., Inc. After rapid expansion in the late 1880s the company moved to Meriden, CT in 1890. After WWI, the firm shifted emphasis from silver products to production of modern jewelry. James Napier became president in 1920 and the company adopted the name Napier - Bliss Co. In 1922, the name was changed to Napier Company. Like many jewelry companies Napier got into lines of art objects and other utilitarian objects like cocktail shakers. In the early to mid 1930s they started producing several cocktail shakers (most notably the "Dial a Drink shaker" and the Rooster motif shaker) other pieces of barware including their well-known graduated/stepped jigger, the mechanical/valve jigger, one-finger and two-fingers jiggers, and a variety of Art Deco style barware including this jigger.
Condition: Good vintage condition with mild but noticeable signs of age. We like to be thorough, so here's a full Conditions Summary:
1) The exterior silver-plating is in tact and in good shape overall but there's some mild "splotchiness" in a few areas (it's very subtle but tends to occur in some vintage silver-plated pieces, especially vintage pieces by Napier, as they were know to have thinner silver-plating).
2) The larger jigger is is perfectly clean and tarnish free; the smaller jigger has wear (through to the silver-plating) at the very bottom of the jigger's interior (see photo #7)
3) The smaller jigger end has a very tiny rough spot on the rim that can be felt with your finger
No dents or dings. In short, this Art Deco-esque jigger is in good vintage condition but does show mild age and wear. Truly a lovely measure.
Hallmarks: "Napier" is embossed in very tiny letters on one of the spokes
Measurements: Approx. 7" tall
