A stunning Napier gold-plated Art Deco "Gavel" jigger, 1930s. This double jigger features a jigger that's shaped as a "gavel" and measures 2 ounces on one side and 3 ounces on the other. The 3 ounce side has 1, 2, and 3 markers to indicate the number of ounces you'd like. The 2 ounce side has a single marker for 2 ounces. The wood handle is made of solid wood that appears to be Walnut. Heavier in weight, this jigger is solid. Truly a lovely bar measure.

A quick bit of history on Napier: The Napier Company was named after its president, James H. Napier, who led the company from 1920 to 1960. But the company's history can be tracked back to 1875 when it was founded as Whitney and Rice in Attleboro, Mass., manufacturing silver products. The firm changed hands and name in 1882 and became Carpenter and Bliss and shortly thereafter, E.A. Bliss and Co., Inc. After rapid expansion in the late 1880s the company moved to Meriden, CT in 1890. After WWI, the firm shifted emphasis from silver products to production of modern jewelry. James Napier became president in 1920 and the company adopted the name Napier - Bliss Co. In 1922, the name was changed to Napier Company. Like many jewelry companies Napier got into lines of art objects and other utilitarian objects like cocktail shakers. In the early to mid 1930s they started producing several cocktail shakers (most notably the "Dial a Drink shaker" and the Rooster motif shaker) other pieces of barware including their well-known graduated/stepped jigger, the mechanical/valve jigger, one-finger and two-fingers jiggers, and a variety of Art Deco style barware including this jigger.

Condition: Very good vintage condition with mild signs of age. Overall, this piece is in very good condition. We like to be thorough, so here's a full Conditions Summary:

1) The gold-plating is vibrant overall with mild "age" n a few places (one tiny spot appears to have had a sticker, perhaps the department store sticker)
2) There's some minor age/tarnish to the interiors of each jigger, see photo #5
2) The wood handle is in good shape overall and firmly attached to the jigger but does show mild wear including a few scratches to the wood's coating (see photo #8) and wear mostly to the end of the jigger and the area that connects to the jigger. In short, this figural jigger is in good condition but does show signs of mild wear and age. Truly a stunning figural piece that displays beautifully and has a magical feel to it.
