A Napier Two-Fingers jigger, in its original box. Heavy in weight, this jigger has a solid feel to it. The "two-fingers" indicated "2 ounces". It also has the number 1 and 2 etched into the jigger to show exactly wear the 1 ounce and 2 oz markers are when pouring. Napier started making this particular jigger in the 40s and continued this design through the late 50s.
A quick bit of history on Napier: The Napier Company was named after its president, James H. Napier, who led the company from 1920 to 1960. But the company's history can be tracked back to 1875 when it was founded as Whitney and Rice in Attleboro, Mass., manufacturing silver products. The firm changed hands and name in 1882 and became Carpenter and Bliss and shortly thereafter, E.A. Bliss and Co., Inc. After rapid expansion in the late 1880s the company moved to Meriden, CT in 1890. After WWI, the firm shifted emphasis from silver products to production of modern jewelry. James Napier became president in 1920 and the company adopted the name Napier - Bliss Co. In 1922, the name was changed to Napier Company. Like many jewelry companies Napier got into lines of art objects and other utilitarian objects like cocktail shakers. In the early to mid 1930s they started producing several cocktail shakers (most notably the "Dial a Drink shaker" and the Rooster motif shaker) other pieces of barware including their well-known graduated/stepped jigger, the mechanical/valve jigger, and their one-finger and two-finger jiggers.
Condition: Excellent condition. It appears to be NOS (new old stock) and according to the previous owner was never used. There's a mild amount of tarnish that can be polished away, if the buyer chooses to. The box is also in great condition. Please note: this box does not bare the Napier logo. Depending on what store (i.e. department store, Jewelry store, etc) carried the jigger, the box was different. This box is a beige color with some texture to it and the manufacturing number of the back. It's rare to come across this particular jigger with such vibrant silver-plating, in its original box.
Hallmarks: "Napier" is stamped on the bottom of the jigger and the box has #287 on the back upper left corner (which was the number for this particular two-finger jigger).
Measurements: The jigger measures 3" tall from bottom to the tip of the fingers and 1 3/4" wide; the box measures 3 1/2" long by 2 1/4" wide
