A lovely pair of silver-plated Fox stirrup cups, with gold-washed accents. These vintage cups feature heavy silver-plated cups on the lower section and heavy cast metal gold-washed Fox heads on the upper section. Circa 1970s. When you flip each cup upside down, it balances perfectly on the fox's ears and head. Truly a lovely and well-crafted pair of Stirrup cups.
A quick summary on this type of cup and where the name originated: Stirrup cups (and smaller jiggers) were given to guests when they were leaving and had their feet in the leather stirrups (of the horse). It was also traditional to serve wine/port/sherry at the meet, prior to the Fox hunt, so the stirrup cup was taken by a rider who was about to depart.

Hallmarks/era: None; 1970s
Condition: Good/Fair vintage condition overall with mild signs of age. We're include "Fair" due to some of the gold-wash on the Fox heads being worn. The silver-plated cup portions are in great shape and extremely vibrant. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage pieces, so here's a full summary:
1) There's noticeable wear to some parts of the gold-wash on several areas of each Fox heads (ie around the eyes and ears). We've zoomed in, please see all photos.
2) The silver-plating is extremely vibrant and in great shape beyond a few small areas of tarnish.
3) The interiors are in great shape and perfectly clean.
4) Please note: the heads were made in "molds" and you can see the "seams" of this on each Fox head (purely the way some vintage Stirrup cups were made).
In short, these cups are in Good vintage condition. We're include "Fair" condition for the upper head portions as there's noticeable wear/gold loss. Truly a lovely figural stirrup cup. Cheers.
