A lovely vintage silver-plated stag/deer stirrup cup. Heavy in weight, this goblet has a nice weighted feel to it (this piece is silver-plated over sold brass). You can turn this cup upside down and it balances perfectly on its antlers. The detailing of the deer is simply gorgeous from the antlers to the fur to the majestic horns. Truly a lovely stirrup.

We have another matching stirrup cup in slightly different condition, if you'd like a pair. See other listings.

A quick summary on this type of cup and where the name originated: Stirrup cups were given to guests when they were leaving and had their feet in the leather stirrups (of the horse). It was also traditional to serve wine/port/sherry at the meet, prior to the fox hunt, so the stirrup cup was taken by a rider who was about to depart.

Condition: Good/Fair vintage condition overall but with signs of age. We're including "Fair" due to some of the brass peaking through the silver-plating. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage pieces, so here'a a full summary:

1) This piece is silver-plated over brass and there are quite a few areas where the silver-plating has worn away revealing the brass underneath, giving it a "gold hue" in a number of areas
2) There are also what we refer to as "age spots" that are darker in color
3) The interior is clear but shows mild age, a few small age spots to the interior side wall, and some tarnish (which gives it a mild "gold" hue)
3) The upper deer head has a dark green "patina" in a few areas (this can occur on vintage metal pieces of the course of years, depending on how it was stored, etc). -- see photos.

In short, this stirrup cup is in Good/Fair vintage condition (we're including "Fair" mostly due to the brass peaking through the silver-plating as well as some age spots) -- this piece does show general signs of age including age spots, wear to some areas of the silver-plating, and some tarnish. It displays beautifully. Cheers.
