A lovely vintage silver-plated stag/deer stirrup cup. Heavy in weight, this goblet has a nice weighted feel to it (this piece is silver-plated over sold brass). You can turn this cup upside down and it balances perfectly on its antlers. The detailing of the deer is simply gorgeous from the antlers to the fur to the majestic horns. Truly a lovely stirrup.
We have another matching stirrup cup in slightly different condition, if you'd like a pair. See other listings.
A quick summary on this type of cup and where the name originated: Stirrup cups were given to guests when they were leaving and had their feet in the leather stirrups (of the horse). It was also traditional to serve wine/port/sherry at the meet, prior to the fox hunt, so the stirrup cup was taken by a rider who was about to depart.
Condition: Good vintage condition overall but with NOTICEABLE signs of age. We like to be thorough when it comes to our vintage pieces, so here'a a full summary:
1) The cup section shows some tarnish and what we refer to as "age spots" that are darker in color (this piece is silver-plated over brass, so the "age spots" either appear darker in color or show some of a "gold tone" which is the brass peaking through) -- there are quite a few of these small age spots -- please see all photos
2) The interior is clear but shows mild age, two small age spots, and some tarnish (which gives it a "gold" hue)
3) The silver-plating has worn in a few places on the cup portion where the brass is peaking through, giving several areas a "gold" hue (mostly to the front of the cup)
In short, this stirrup cup is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age including age spots, wear to some areas of the silver-plating, and some tarnish. It displays beautifully. Cheers.
Measurements: 5 1/2" tall by 3 1/2" in diameter
Hallmarks/era: None; Mid Century
**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery. Please note: we're not making a penny on shipping. This piece is heavier in weight and we pack our items well to ensure safe arrival.
****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces. Our items are true vintage pieces that might have manufacturers flaws, flaws from age, or imperfections in general from being vintage. We try to explain the condition/description in an accurate and thorough manner but we ask that you please examine all photos carefully and ask all questions before purchasing an item as we are unable to accept returns due to the risk of breakage. Cheers!
