A lovely vintage Moose stirrup jigger by Comoy's of London (Mid Century). Heavier in weight and made of pewter, this stirrup jigger features an "Moose" upper and "jigger" bottom and rests perfectly on its head/antlers when turned upside down. The detailing of the Moose is incredible, from its antlers to its ears. Truly a magical piece.
A quick summary on this type of cup and where the name originated: Stirrup cups were given to guests (early 18th and 19th century) when they were leaving and had their feet in the leather stirrups (of the horse). It was also traditional to serve wine/port/sherry at the meet, prior to the fox hunt, so the stirrup cup was taken by a rider who was about to depart.
Hallmarks/era: "Comoy's Made in Sheffield England" can be found on the bottom interior
Condition: Very good vintage condition with mild and general signs of age/surface wear. The pewter is in great condition overall. There's a small amount of tarnish on the head. The interior is clean. There's what we refer to as "surface wear" in a few places which includes micro-fine scratches, etc (from past handling, how it was stored, etc). In short, this vintage jigger is in good condition with mild signs of age/tarnish/patina. It displays beautifully.
Measurements: 3 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter
