vintage-ram-sheep-stirrup-cup
Vintage Ram (Sheep) Stirrup Cup

A lovely vintage silver-plated Ram (Male Sheep) stirrup cup, NOS (new Old Stock). Heavier in weight, this goblet has a nice weighted feel to it. This piece is silver-plated with a stunning gold-wash interior. You can turn this cup upside down and it balances perfectly on its horns. The detailing is simply gorgeous from the fur to the majestic horns. Truly a lovely stirrup.

A quick summary on this type of cup and where the name originated: Stirrup cups were given to guests when they were leaving and had their feet in the leather stirrups (of the horse). It was also traditional to serve wine/port/sherry at the meet, prior to the fox hunt, so the stirrup cup was taken by a rider who was about to depart.

Condition: Pristine condition. This cup doesn't appear to have ever been used and appears to be NOS (new old stock). it's still in its original box and wrapping. The silver-plating is extremely vibrant. There's minor age that comes purely from time (ie there's a tiny dark line of adhesive just below the Ram's head that occurred during manufacturing; it's very subtle) -- but overall this Stirrup is in great shape. The box is in good shape overall but does show minor age that cardboard gets over the course of decades.

Measurements: Just shy of 6" tall

Hallmarks: None

**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery.

****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces.
